(ANSA) - Rome, August 24 - Italy will hold a post-Assad summit in Rome next week to discuss the possible outcome of Syria's civil war, Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi said Friday. "We launched the idea of a meeting to be held among senior officials to discuss post-Assad Syria. The summit will take place in Rome next week," Terzi said. It was not clear if the officials included ones from other countries, and if so, which nations would be participating. Terzi made the comments as he was leaving the prime minister's offices at Palazzo Chigi, where the government held a cabinet meeting today. French President Francoise Hollande said Thursday he didn't expect that Assad could hold on to power much longer, adding that France and Germany were interested in asking the U.N. to initiate humanitarian action in the country. Hollande was speaking at a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
