Merkel says ECB, Germany 'completely aligned' on euro crisis

(ANSA) - Rome, August 16 - The European Central Bank (ECB) is completely aligned with Germany in its approach to handling the continuing euro sovereign-debt crisis, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Thursday. Speaking during a state visit to Canada after her summer vacation, Merkel said that the ECB "is completely in line with Germany" in terms of the conditions it seeks in exchange for help to euro-zone countries in difficulty. Earlier Thursday, an opinion piece by two politicians from Merkel's governing coalition in economic daily Handelsblatt attacked ECB chief Mario Draghi for allegedly being too lenient on errant euro-zone economies, accusing him of turning the ECB into a "bad bank".
