'Seagulls invading Venetian beaches'

(ANSA) - Venice, August 14 - Seagulls are invading Venetian beaches and wading near swimmers with impunity, according to the city's office of tourism. "They gather around swimmers and sunbathers at the Exclesior," said Venice Tourism Assessor Roberto Panciera. The Excelsior is one of Venice's elite beach hotels on the Lido island. "This is an absolute emergency that needs an immediate solution," he said, adding that the use of a trained falcon to ward off avian invasions had been cut back this year. "I hope these are oversights and not the willful lowering of standards".
