Andreotti's health 'normalizing', hospital officials say

(ANSA) - Rome, August 6 - The health of former Italian premier Giulio Andreotti is "normalizing", health officials said Monday after the senator-for-life was hospitalized Saturday for a cardiac arrhythmia. Andreotti, 93, is not yet ready to be released from the Policlinico Gemelli di Roma, authorities said. Andreotti's health has not been stable this year. The seven-time premier spent two weeks in hospital for heart problems and breathing difficulties in May. At one point, the former head of the now-defunct Christian Democrats (DC) party was reported to be in critical condition. However the Senator, known for his dry wit, was later said to be joking and breathing normally on the day he was admitted. The DC dominated Italian politics after World World II until the Bribesville scandals led to its collapse in the early 1990s.
