Olympics: Foil fencing women pull off maximum haul

(ANSA) - London, August 3 - Italy's women foil fencing 'dream team' have pulled off a maximum haul at the London Olympics by winning the team event after taking a clean sweep of the medals in the individual competition. The Azzurri quartet of Elisa Di Francisca, Arianna Errigo, Valentina Vezzali and Ilaria Salvatori cruised to a 45-31 victory over Russia in Thursday's final. On Saturday Di Francisca came top of an all-Italian podium in the foil fencing after beating Errigo in the final. All-time fencing great Vezzali, who had been chasing her fourth individual Olympic foil title, beat South Korea's Nam Hyun-hee to claim bronze after being knocked out by Errigo in the semis. Vezzali, Italy's flag-carrier at the opening ceremony of the London Games, took her Olympic medal tally up to nine, including six golds.
