(ANSAmed) - BEIRUT, AUGUST 2 - Syrian rebels have gained control of another broder crossing, this time with Iraq, according to a report by pan-Arab television network Al Jazeera. In a report from Al Qaim, on the border with Iraq, Al Jazeera's Ayub Rida said militia with the Free Syrian Armyhad gained control of the Syrian side of the crossing in the Mamlaha area, just a few kilometres away from the town of Albukamal. The border crossing had been at the centre of intense fighting at the end of July between rebels and government forces which had regained control of the area. The border between the two countries is 600-km-long and has four official crossings. The Albukama-Qaim one is the most important as it is crossed by the highway connecting Syria to Iraq's capital Baghdad. . (ANSAmed).
