(ANSA) - Vatican City, August 1 - Pope Benedict XVI on Wednesday addressed his first general audience in Rome since returning from his summer vacation. "A Christian's relationship with God is essential," he told a small audience of some 5,000. This relationship "illuminates and renders secure and serene" our walk, "even in the middle of difficulties and dangers". Benedict took his holiday at the papal residence in Castelgandolfo amid Vatican investigations into the so-called VatiLeaks case. Investigators in the case, which is still ongoing, are expected to announce soon whether there will be a trial for Paolo Gabriele, the papal butler under house arrest for allegedly leaking confidential documents to the press.
