Horse-drawn carriages banned from capital due to heat alert

(ANSA) - Rome, July 31 - A city ordinance was issued for Rome on Tuesday forbidding horse-pulled buggies from circulating due to the extreme heat gripping the country. "A weather alert has been sounded meaning that the 40 carriages authorized in the city are banned from circulating," said Rome Environmental Councilor Marco Visconti. Last week a horse collapsed from heat exhaustion on the capital's Piazza di Spagna, raising concerns for working animals' well-being.
