Vatican's official newspaper to relaunch U.S edition

(ANSA) - Vatican City, July 24 - An English language edition of the Vatican's official newspaper, L'Osservatore Romano, is being re-launched in the United States, the paper announced Tuesday. The Osservatore Romano publishes papal discourses, texts, documents and reports on church news. It also provides news on world affairs and cultural issues from the perspective of the Vatican. The first U.S. issue of the Osservatore Romano - made possible by Catholic publisher Our Sunday Visitor (OSV) - is scheduled to come out Wednesday. OSV will print the Osservatore Romano at its facilities in Huntington, Indiana, and distribute the paper throughout North America. The 100-year-old American publisher also puts out the Catholic paper OSV Newsweekly. "This is a partnership that works well for both entities," said Greg Erlandson, president and publisher of OSV. "Our Sunday Visitor is able to expand on our mission to serve the Church in a very direct way and assist the Vatican in its mission at the same time. "Plus, the Vatican is able to take full advantage of our leadership position as one of the largest publishing and distribution houses in the United States". An English version of L'Osservatore Romano was published in the US from 1998 until last year.
