New-fangled cowbell makes bovine accessories high-tech

(ANSA) - Bolzano, July 25 - Students at the Galileo Galilei Technical Institute in the northern city of Bolzano have given an important bovine accessory, the cowbell, a new ding-a-ling. Martin Monsorno and Patrick Anderlan have reinvented one of the most traditional animal-tracking tools and given it a high-tech twist, complete with a GPS tracking device and a function that sends the cow's owner a text message if it travels too far from the herd. An automated system also allows the herder to lower the bell's volume when the bovines approach towns to avoid disturbing inhabitants.
