Pope says sainthoods outweigh scandals

Vatican City, September 16 - Pope Francis said Monday that positive events in the Catholic Church, such as popes John Paul II and John XXIII being named saints soon, outweigh Church scandals, according to Rome religious weekly RomaSette. "Sainthood is bigger than the scandals," the pontiff reportedly said during a meeting with Rome's parish priests. According to Vatican watchers, the two popes, among the 20th century's most charismatic, will likely be made saints April 27, the first Sunday after Easter and also the Feast of Divine Mercy, one of John Paul's favourite feasts because it marks revelations by Jesus in 1931 to a Polish nun the pontiff canonised as Saint Faustina in 2000.
