Concordia cruise ship salvage racks up 600-mn-euro bill

Rome, September 12 - The cost of clearing away the half-sunken Costa Concordia cruise ship off the coast of Tuscany has so far cost an estimated 600 million euros, Costa Crociere said Thursday. Those expenses do not include removing the ship, said the cruise company's Franco Porcellacchia, which will not happen until the spring at the earliest. The crash killed 32 people when the massive liner hit a rock off the Island of Giglio in January 2012. On Monday salvage crews plan to right the capsized Concordia, a pivotal step in eventually hauling it away.
