Police smash drug ring in Modena

Modena, September 12 - At least 48 suspected drug couriers were arrested, another 54 warrants issued for suspects, and 26 kilograms of drugs including heroin and cocaine seized after a Modena-based drug ring was busted, police said Thursday. The drug-trafficking ring, which operated in the northern Italian region of Emilia-Romagna and stretched further north, involved Albanians and North Africans bringing drugs in from Turkey and Albania, police said. Police also seized nine cars, two motorcycles, about 50,000 euros, and several weapons including a semi-automatic pistol during raids in cities including Modena, Bari, Ferrara, Milan, Parma, Piacenza, Reggio Emilia, Siracusa and Trieste.
