70-yr-old tries to hammer, burn ex-wife's new husband

Monsummano Terme, September 11 - A 70-year-old man outside Florence entered his ex-wife's home and tried to beat her current husband with a hammer as well as light him on fire, investigators said on Wednesday. Police intervened in time to prevent grave injury to the 64-year-old victim in Monsummano Terme, in the province of Pistoia. The motive for the attack was unclear, and the couple had been divorced for many years. Investigators said the aggressor forced the gate open with a screwdriver, came after his ex-wife's husband brandishing a hammer, squirted him with flammable liquid and tried to ignite him with a lighter. Police arrested the aggressor for breaking and entering, threats and attempted aggravated assault, as well as resistance and threats made to a public official.
