Sunken cruise ship could be righted Tuesday

Island of Giglio, September 11 - Righting the Costa Concordia cruise ship could happen this coming Monday, authorities said Tuesday, marking a pivotal step in removing the capsized liner. "For us the first window for righting the Concordia is September 16," Civil Protection Department head Franco Gabrielli told residents of the Island of Giglio off the coast of Tuscany. Righting the ship is an important phase leading to the safe removal of the ship, which crashed and partially sank in January 2012, killing 32 people. If all goes as planned, the process could be completed by month's end. Much more time will be needed, however, before the Concordia can actually be removed from the area possibly next spring, officials have said.
