Doctors and director probed in death of writer Bevilacqua

Rome, September 11 - Four people from the Villa Mafalda clinic in Rome were placed under investigation on Wednesday for the death of Italian writer Alberto Bevilacqua who passed away after a long illness aged 79 on Monday. Investigators said that clinic director Mario Maggio and physicians Antonio Ciccaglioni, Claudio Di Giovanni and Giuseppe Gentile are being probed to determine if they provided adequate treatment of Bevilacqua during his 11-month stay at the private structure. Bevilacqua was a highly prolific author who produced over 40 books between the early 1960s until last year that helped tell the story of life in Italy after World War II.
