Hot dog maker CEO probed for worker's death

Lecce, September 10 - The CEO of Italian hot dog producer Scarlino, Attilio Scarlino, was arrested on Tuesday in investigations into the death of a worker who died on the job in August. Mario Orlando, 53, died from injuries after he fell into a large blending machine that he was cleaning in the company's production plant in Taurisano near the Puglia city of Lecce. Investigators allege that parts of the machine's safety mechanisms had been removed to speed up production. The company's press office told ANSA that they could not comment until investigators had finished inspections being carried out in the plant. Scarlino exports its hot dogs and sausages worldwide.
