Italy to slash military personnel by 20%

Redipuglia, September 10 - Italian Defence Minister Mario Mauro announced on Tuesday that Italy will slash its military personnel by one fifth in an unprecedented shift of public spending priorities. "There will be a reduction of the personnel in the armed forces of about 20%," Mauro said. Mauro called the restructuring of the military an "epochal process" in which the armed forces "must reckon with the conditions of public finances and the State budget".
