Over one in 10 Italians suffer material hardships, EU says

Brussels, September 9 - Some 11% of Italians suffer "serious material hardships", a report released by the European Union said on Monday. Italy is the only large country in core Europe that suffers from hardships such as cutting back on heating and meat consumption, according to the report prepared by EU Commissioner for Health and Consumer Policy Tonio Borg of Malta. The number of Italians suffering these types of material hardships is in fact double those suffering them in France, Germany and the United Kingdom, the report said.
