Rome, September 4 - Italy's Integration Minister Cecile Kyenge said Wednesday that she will support Pope Francis's call for peace in Syria by joining his international day of fasting and prayer. "I will fast to build with you and Papa Francesco a peace beyond the boundaries and borders," Kyenge said in a tweet to her followers posted on her Twitter feed. Earlier in the day, Francis vowed to lead prayers and fasting on Saturday to promote peace in Syria, the Middle East and around the world. As he spoke, the United States appeared close to a bombing campaign against Syria, where the government has apparently been attacking its citizens with poison gas. The Grand Mufti of Syria, Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun, and member of Rome's Jewish community and along with chief rabbi Riccardo Di Segni have also said they will take part in Saturday's initiative, making it an inter-religious peace vigil. The pope has urged pilgrims and the faithful in Rome to join a prayer vigil in St. Peter's Square at 19:00 on Saturday.
