Berlusconi ban 'not PD problem'

PdL 'must separate govt destiny from ex-premier's affairs'

Berlusconi ban 'not PD problem'

Rome, September 4 - Silvio Berlusconi's ban from office after his August 1 tax-fraud conviction is a problem for his own People of Freedom (PdL) party and not its centre-left government partners in the Democratic Party (PD), PD justice pointman Danilo Leva said Wednesday. The PdL is threatening to sink the emergency reform PD-PdL government unless the PD votes against removing Berlusconi from the Senate later this month. The PD has repeatedly said it will vote to uphold the law. "Evidently, they're deaf and blind in the PdL," Leva said. "We have clearly and on several occasions set out our position, and it won't change. "It's the PdL that must address the problem. It's up to them to separate the government's destiny from Berlusconi's personal affairs".
