Pictures of dog with accused murderer help in robbery probe

Busto Arsizio (Varese), September 2 - Police said on Monday that Facebook photos of a murder suspect with a dog helped lead to his arrest. Alex Maggio was arrested and charged in the murder of jewelry story employee Maria Angela Granomelli after he was recognized from surveillance cameras. Police say they were also helped by Facebook photos of Maggio with his girlfriend's dog, described as "small but with huge ears". The dog was recognized in a park with Maggio's girlfriend and when they were followed, led them to Maggio. Police had posted reward offers all over the area between the northern cities of Milan and Varese for information leading to his capture. Three photos of the suspect were taken from the shop's surveillance camera where Granomelli, 62, was brutally beaten and murdered on August 3. The murderer allegedly perused the shop for 40 minutes before turning on Granomelli, striking her in the head with a metal strong box then beating and kicking her to death.
