New Vatican Sec. of State a 'gain', says Caracas Archbishop

Vatican City, September 2 - The appointment of archbishop Pietro Parolin as the Holy See's Secretary of State is "a gain for the Vatican", Cardinal Jorge Urosa Savino, archbishop of Caracas, said on Monday. The Vatican confirmed on Saturday that Parolin, currently the Holy See's representative in Venezuela, will replace Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone. Bertone, who was appointed secretary of state during Benedict XVI's papacy, is said to have been a divisive figure within the Vatican and was widely seen as the target of the so-called 'Vatileaks' campaign involving confidential Church documents leaked to the press by the pope's butler last year.
