Southern Italian 'Bonnie & Clyde' accused of 3 heists in a week

Couple arrested for robbery-spree in Calabria

Crotone, August 30 - Italian police arrested a couple accused of committing a robbery spree - Bonnie and Clyde style - in the southern Italian region of Calabria, investigators said Friday. Antonio Pisano, 36, and his girlfriend Simona Franze', 26, allegedly held up three bars in a single week in Crotone, a city in the ball of Italy's boot. Investigators said Franze' was caught by surveillance cameras staking out the scene just prior to a hit on the Capasa bar on August 26. The video also shows her outside with Pisano, passing him a bag containing garments worn to carry out the heist. Franze' allegedly left clues for investigators also in an August 19 robbery of the Bar Imperial and the August 23 hold up of Bar Il Punto d'Incontro. Police hypothesize that she staked out victims while Pisano carried out the crime. Franze' was placed under house arrest, while Pisano was locked up in the Crotone jail. Police spotted Franze', whose face they knew from the surveillance video, on a downtown street of Crotone. ''The fear was that they could carry out other crimes, but this was prevented by officers, who reconstructed the robbery scheme piece by piece,'' said Roberto Pellicone, deputy superintendent of the Crotone police, who coordinated the investigation with squad chief Francesco Muraca.
