Trenitalia braced for 600,000 passengers Aug 31 weekend

Rome, August 30 - Italy's state railway company Trenitalia is bracing itself for the more than 600,000 passengers it expects will travel on its carriages in the last weekend of August, as vacationers wind down the traditional annual holiday month for the nation's families. Over half a million people are expected to board the high-speed Frecce trains, as well as national ones as their summer holidays wind down. The railway company estimates that it will have transported a total of 21 million people to and from their summer holidays over the vacation period by the end of September. The bulk of the passengers will be returning to large cities such as Rome, Milan, Naples, Turin, Bologna and Florence, though there will be some that are departing for late breaks to seaside resorts and cultural cities.
