Man on wanted posters confesses to murder of shop owner

Milan, August 29 - A man believed to have killed a jewelry shop owner August 3 whose image was plastered earlier this week on trucks circulating in Varese-Milan area in northern Italy has confessed after being stopped by officers, police said on Thursday. Gold dealers from the area where 62-year-old Maria Angela Granomelli was brutally beaten and murdered in her jewelry shop in Sarono launched the truck initiative on Tuesday using images captured on surveillance cameras as wanted posters and offering a 50,000-euro reward. Three photos of the suspect were displayed on the trucks with the caption "wanted for the murder...50,000 euros for the assassin's capture". The murderer allegedly perused the shop for 40 minutes before turning on Granomelli, striking her in the head with a metal strong box then beating and kicking her to death.
