Vatican City, August 28 - During a closed-door meeting with 500 young pilgrims in Saint Peter's Basilica on Wednesday, Pope Francis encouraged the crowd to "swim against the tide" and to say no to drugs and alcohol. The pontiff told the crowd that he was meeting with them on their pilgrimage to celebrate the Year of Faith for "selfish reasons". He told the group that he liked being with youth "because you have in your heart a promise of hope. You are bearers of hope. You, in fact, live in the present, but are looking at the future. You are the protagonists of the future, artisans of the future". "Make the future with beauty, with goodness and truth," the pope said. "Have courage. Go forward. Make noise," he told them.
