Naples, August 28 - Police on Wednesday arrested a man who had allegedly been stalking a woman since 2011. The 39-year-old from Sant'Antimo near Naples was apprehended by police in another town near the southern port city of Melito as he was tailing the woman. The 48-year-old victim from Giugliano, also in the Campania region, had repeatedly refused his advances. Investigators said the man, who has a police record, had been stalking her by following her and making threatening calls since December 2011. He is now detained at Naples' Poggioreale jail. The government earlier this month approved a new decree to protect women from violence targeting crimes such as stalking. The decree, which became effective mid-August, includes mandatory arrest for stalking and family abuse.
