Slain anti-racket hero remembered in Sicily

Palermo, August 28 - A series of commemorative events are taking place in Sicily Wednesday to honor the 22nd anniversary of the slaying of Palermo businessman Libero Grassi, killed by the Mafia for refusing to pay extortion money. Grassi, a Sicilian clothing manufacturer, was gunned down August 29, 1991 for standing up to the Cosa Nostra and going public with his complaints. On Wednesday, the head of the national anti-racket agency and a Palermo prosecutor are holding a debate in the town of Capaci called "22 Years After the Assassination of Libero Grassi". Other events will continue Thursday.
