Rome, August 27 - The Italian economy undersecretary assured radio listeners on Tuesday that rolling back the controversial IMU property tax served the common interests of the political right and left, and that a new tax to cover the revenue shortfall would still mean fewer taxes overall. There is ''a converging interest'' to resolve the IMU, Pier Paolo Baretta of the centre-left Democratic Party (PD) told Radio1 listeners. ''The viable solution is the realization of a municipal service tax with large powers given to municipalities,'' Baretta added. ''We will refine solutions with the political powers'' but ''the final result will be that everyone pays less,'' Baretta assured.
