Cat poisonings arouse furor on island of Capri

Capri, August 20 - Another dead cat was found Tuesday in the historic centre of the Italian resort town of Capri, escalating a furor among animal activists over a series of cat killings this month on the famous island south of Naples. The latest feline victim was poisoned like two other cats found in the same Sant'Anna neighborhood a few days ago. Posters have appeared on the streets saying, "Shame on you! This is the third. We hope you're next, suffering the same agony". The posters directed anyone with information about the offender to report it to authorities. Other cats have met similar fates in the Marina Piccola and Palazzo a Mare neighbourhoods, arousing criminal suspicions. On Monday, animal rights activist group I Migliori Amici (The Best Friends) filed a formal complaint to authorities and a request to be a civil plaintiff in case of trial.
