Court freezes parish carer's 800,000-euro inheritance

Brescia, August 20 - A civil court in Brescia on Tuesday froze the bank accounts and will of Father Giulio Gatteri, a priest in the northern Italian town of San Sebastiano, who died last April leaving all his possessions estimated at around 800.000 euros to his parish carer in a handwritten will. The Brescia dioceses took legal action against the will in an attempt to reclaim the money. The 52-year-old carer, who assisted the parish over the last 12 years, agreed at Tuesday's hearing not to use the money until the court's ruling. She has said she is willing to turn the sum over to the church.
