United States, Germany 'confident' in eurozone reforms

(ANSA) - Rome, July 30 - United States Treasury Secretary and German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble are "confident" in eurozone reforms, a statement from their meeting said Monday. Meeting at Schaeuble's holiday spot off the North Sea in Germany, the two men discussed the "considerable" economic and structural reforms launched in Spain and Italy to offset the effects of the euro crisis. They also applauded Ireland and Portugal in their efforts to stabilize public finances. Interrupting his vacation, Schaeuble met his American counterpart following last week's remarks from European Central Bank President Mario Draghi that the ECB was "ready to do everything necessary to save the single currency".
