San Rocco di Camogli
San Rocco di Camogli, August 16 - A brave golden retriever who saved her family from a house fire was honoured Friday during an awards ceremony for heroic canines. Mia, an 18-month-old golden retriever, barked until she was able to wake a member of her family who then smelled the smoke that signalled a house fire and called the fire brigade. Mia's story was one of many heard at the annual ceremony in the community of San Rocco di Camogli, in northwestern Italy, honouring dogs who have saved their families and other humans. Also on the honour roll is Arturo, a five-year-old rottweiler who helped recover survivors from the wreck of the Costa Concordia cruise ship at Giglio Island off the coast of Tuscany. Thirty-four people died in that January 2012 shipwreck.
