Italians in Egypt warned to avoid cities

Cairo, August 16 - The Italian foreign ministry on Friday was advising Italians in Egypt to stay inside resorts and avoid cities as authorities there braced for new rounds of protests after hundreds were killed in military clashes with demonstrators earlier in the week. Tourism authorities in Egypt told ANSA roughly 19,000 Italians were visiting tourist destinations in the country, up by about 5,000 compared to last week as Italians celebrate the week surrounding the August 15 Ferragosto national holiday. On Wednesday authorities in Cairo broke up Muslim Brotherhood protest camps, leading to at least 638 deaths.
