Dawn tremor makes rude awakening in southern Italy

Rome, August 16 - A mild earthquake gave Italians a rude awakening early Friday between the southern Campania and Basilicata regions. Seismographers measured a magnitude-2.6 tremor around sunrise between the provinces of Salerno and Potenza. No injuries or serious property damage were reported. It was the third area in Italy hit by tremors in two days. The quake came hours after two quakes measuring over four points shook Sicilians out of their beds around Messina. On Thursday, a 3.6-magnitude tremor rocked the coast of Tuscany.
