Rare goat extends habitat in Abruzzo reserve

Rome, August 14 - A rare mountain goat hunted almost to extinction for its chamois leather after WWII is growing in numbers and extending its habitat in the protected environment of the Abruzzo National Park. A small herd of Apennine chamois, a goat antelope, was spotted on a mountain not far from the Abruzzo capital L'Aquila by hikers who posted their snaps on Facebook Wednesday. About 750 members of the endangered species live in the nature reserve, where they are among its prime attractions.
