Italian debt hits record high

Rome, August 12 - Italy's public debt hit a new record in June of 2.0751 trillion euros, the central bank said Monday. The Bank of Italy said the 0.6-billion-euro rise from May was attributable to an increase in liquidity at the Treasury to cover public-administration costs. The government is looking to find ways to cut the nation's huge public debt, which is around 130% of gross domestic product and has made investors weary since the onset of the euro crisis.
