Rome, August 8 - After 19 years on the run, Italian mobster Domenico Rancadore has been arrested by British police in London, authorities announced Thursday. Rancadore, a leading figure in of Cosa Nostra in Palermo, had been ordered to serve seven years in prison for a variety of mafia-related charges including extortion. The 64-year-old has been on Italy's most-wanted list since 1994 and was living with his British wife in London where he ran a travel agency, police said. After a lengthy investigation, police were able to pin down his location and captured him Wednesday night at his home. The ex-head of the Palermo's Trabia family had avoided extradition while continuing to receive his teacher's pension directly deposited into his account by the Italian government.
