Threats from terrorism 'considerable,' says Bonino

Rome, August 6 - Terrorism threats to travellers abroad this summer are "considerable", Foreign Affairs Minister Emma Bonino warned Tuesday. She urged Italians travelling outside the country to be extra careful. "The threats of a resumption terrorist threats are substantial," she said after defence meetings with Russian officials. Her comments came in the wake of warnings by the United States that a terrorist plot was likely in the works. The US urged its citizens in Yemen to leave the country on Tuesday and Britain began to pull its embassy staff. In recent days, other security alerts have been issued. "I have asked Italian tourists to be careful...but not to be alarmist," Bonino said earlier in day during an interview with Unomattina morning TV talk show. "Those travelling to the Red Sea, for example, should avoid going on excursions".
