Rome, August 6 - An investigation was ordered Tuesday into the death of a 40-year-old woman after complications during child birth. Health Minister Beatrice Lorenzin said she sent officials to Sicily to find out what happened to the woman, who died after a caesarian section at the Nicosia hospital. "I immediately sent inspectors to travel to Sicily to ascertain the causes that led to the death of the woman and the baby," including investigating emergency and transport services, Lorenzin said in a statement. "Death in childbirth in 2013 is already difficult to understand, but if this is caused by negligence, it is unacceptable". Lorenzin also asked regional health authorities in Sicily for a report on the deaths.
