Pope says faith is a 'secure light' in a naughty world

Vatican City, August 6 - The promise that faith should be seen as a ''secure light'' that can guide individuals through times of crisis and conflict is part of the pope's message on World Mission Day this fall, released Tuesday by Vatican officials. A lack of faith and confidence is being felt in every aspect of social and personal life, Pope Francis acknowledges in his message prepared to mark the mission day on Oct. 20. ''The men and women of our time need the secure light that illuminates their path and that only the encounter with Christ can give,'' the pope says in his message. ''We also live in a time of crisis that touches various sectors of existence, not only the economy, finance, food security, or the environment, but also those involving the deeper meaning of life and the fundamental values that animate it,'' Francis says. This makes it ''even more urgent'' for Christians to show courage and leadership in their faith, he adds. ''I proclaim that the power of God's love is able to overcome the darkness of evil and guide on the path of good''.
