Agrigento, August 5 - The crews of two impounded fishing boats were released Monday after 20,000 euros in fines were paid to authorities in Malta. The crews sailed for Agrigento in Sicily after being held in Malta for outstanding fines. The vessels were seized late last week and held until family members transferred the money to authorities in Malta. "It was a race against time," said Gaetano Cannizzo, president of the fishers cooperative that helped with the release of the boats. The Italian Embassy in Malta became involved in the case, working over the weekend to try to gain the release of the two fishing vessels.
