PdL undersecretary may quit govt after Berlusconi ruling

(see related stories on Berlusconi ruling) Rome, August 1 - Cabinet Undersecretary Michaela Biancofiore said she may quit the government after Silvio Berlusconi's four-year prison sentence for tax fraud was upheld by the supreme court Thursday. Biancofiore, a MP for Berlusconi's People of Freedom (PdL) party, said she would let the ex-premier decide if should stay in her position. Biancofiore said the conviction of an "innocent man" was the Apocalypse of Italy, the end of the Italian political world and of any semblance of democracy". She said the ruling confirmed that Berlusconi was the victim of a "political-judicial design that dates back a long time and is fed by foreign powers and States". She added that Berlusconi's supporters should rally round and encourage the media maganet "not to give up" and that she hoped his lawyers too the case to the European Court of Human Rights.
