Undersecretary says anyone but Berlusconi would be cleared

(see related stories) Perugia, August 1 - Transport Undersecretary Rocco Girlanda said Thursday that anyone else but Silvio Berlusconi would have been acquitted after the ex-premier's four-year prison term for tax fraud was upheld by the supreme court. "For anyone else there would not even have been a trial, never mind a conviction," said Girlanda, a MP for Berlusconi's People of Freedom (PdL) party. "It's a sentence of the Italian State and as such it should be respected, but I don't agree with it. "It's clear that the crime Berlusconi was accused of does not exist".
