Salerno, August 1 - Police in the southern region of Campania on Thursday confiscated some 800,000 euros in goods from a 59-year-old man being probed for alleged mafia connections. Investigators said that Felice Balsamo worked closely with the Camorra criminal clan headed by Giovanni Maiale that operates in and around the cities of Battipaglia and Eboli. From 2000 to 2010, investigators believe that Balsamo accumulated large sums of money invested in four properties in Rome, Salerno and Sala Consilina. Balsamo is suspected of usury, fraud, receiving stolen property and extortion.
