Migliaccio and Bergamo face sanctions for tank stunt

Rome, July 31 - Atalanta midfielder Giulio Migliaccio and the Bergamo soccer club faced formal sanctions Wednesday after a stunt involving a WWII-era American tank that was driven over cars painted in the colours of traditional rivals. Prosecutors referred Migliaccio and the club to the national disciplinary committee of the Italian Soccer Federation (FIGC) over the July 14 incident, which occurred at an annual Bergamo celebration. Migliaccio apologized for the stunt, where two cars were crushed, one representing Roma and the other rival Brescia. Photos appeared on newspaper front pages of the car crushing, which critics said went beyond the boundaries of sport rivalries. Migliaccio said he was on the tank to greet fans but didn't realize the plan was to crush representatives of team rivals.
