Former minister's house searched in Liguria

Rome, July 30 - Police in the northern city of Imperia carried out two searches on Tuesday at the home of former industry minister Claudio Scajola. The searches were first carried out by police from a unit responsible for the protection of cultural heritage and immediately after by finance police. Police said that the searches are part of probes into a broader ring of illegally obtained artifacts and vases from the Ligurian sea near Imperia. Scajola, who is on trial over a shady real-estate deal in Rome, is also being probed for alleged corruption concerning Brazilian contracts for Italian defence giant Finmeccanica.
