Three Italian films to compete in Venice Film Festival

Rome, July 25 - Three Italian films will be competing at the 70th Venice Film Festival, running August 28 to September 7, festival organizers announced on Thursday. "L'intrepido," directed by Gianni Amelio, is a tragi-comedy tailor-written to the talents of Italian comic actor Antonio Albanese. "Via Castellana Bandiera" is the debut feature film of Sicilian director Emma Dante. Based on the novel of the same title, it tells the story of two Sicilian women, "strong, silent, stubborn and insolent in a timeless Sicily, like the Far West or a Greek tragedy". The third Italian entry is the documentary "Sacro GRA" directed by Gianfranco Rosi, about lives around the ring road in the periphery of Rome. (Photo: Antonio Albanese in "L'intrepido")
