Bari judges offered ice cream from seized shops from mafia

(ANSA) – Bari, July 23 - Ice-cream vendors served up frozen treats to judges in the Bari courthouse on Tuesday produced in shops under court management since they were seized from the mafia more than a year ago. In March 2012, judges in Bari ordered the seizure of several ice cream shops that were among the 10-million euros in assets allegedly belonging to mafia members from the Parisi criminal clan. Since then, the three shops have been managed by the courts, which also seized numerous cars, motorcycles and a water-front restaurant from the gangsters. The ice cream, produced by employees who have been given regular pay and benefits by the courts, has been dubbed 'gelati of legality'.
